French superstar chef Michel Guérard is famous not just for his fantastically refined food but for something that seems wholly at odds with fine dining: weight loss. The minute I felt the warm water surround me I was in love and didn’t want to leave- so I didn’t and took two back to back classes that day. Since then? I’ve taken at least one a day and plan to continue to be in the pool every day if I can. 🌊 The water is soothing, calming and liberating. Our bodies open up in the water and our joints and muscles are free float and stretch and move freely with no impact. I’m weightless in the water- something that isn’t true when I’m on land and I can do all the things I want to do on land and sometimes can’t. Burpees? in the water. Yoga? In the water. Zumba? In the water. Tabata training? In the water. Strength training? In the water. 🌊 I can learn to move and grow and love myself no matter where I’m at in the water. This smile on this day is a different kind of smile than I’ve ever smiled before and I feel differently than I ever have before. And you know what? It’s not about the weight it’s about so much more. A recent study reported that the drinking water supplies for at least 6 million US citizens may exceed the US Environmental Protection Agency’s health advisory limit for lifetime exposure to PFOS and PFOA from drinking water [35]. Due to the potential metabolic abnormalities associated with elevated PFAS levels, we aimed to examine the associations of PFAS exposure with changes in body weight and RMR in the well-designed and rigorously conducted POUNDS (Preventing Overweight Using Novel Dietary Strategies) Lost trial [37].

My son was competing nationally and had to cut almost 20 pounds in 2 days… and he had to wrestle 3 hours after weigh in… (he had two classes to wrestle in 175 or 200 – he though he was 185 and just needed 10 pounds but when he stepped on the scale Wednesday night (friday weigh in) he was 192. He spent a lot of time in the hot tub and ate chicken and broccoli and made weight – then he drank too much too fast and ate two peanut butter, honey and banana sandwhiches… but couldn’t really recover in time… he lost his first match, won his next 4, but getting into the losers column means you wrestle almost every 25 minutes and he couldn’t gain back the stamina… suggestions when you don’t have 24 hours? I think he did pretty good on the cutting weight part (he could have drank more water earlier in the week) but gaining it back along with his energy never really happened – he was done within 24 hours of weigh in…
