I’m posting a bathing suit picture and it doesn’t matter what my weight is or what size I am. My thighs aren’t the focus of this moment but instead the giant smile on my face is. Do you see it? I have always loved the water but wasn’t sure what to expect in a class but jumped in anyway. Literally into the unknown and the deep end. The minute I felt the warm water surround me I was in love and didn’t want to leave- so I didn’t and took two back to back classes that day. Since then? I’ve taken at least one a day and plan to continue to be in the pool every day if I can. 🌊 The water is soothing, calming and liberating. Our bodies open up in the water and our joints and muscles are free float and stretch and move freely with no impact. I’m weightless in the water- something that isn’t true when I’m on land and I can do all the things I want to do on land and sometimes can’t. Burpees? in the water. Yoga? In the water. Zumba? In the water. Tabata training? In the water. Strength training? In the water. 🌊 I can learn to move and grow and love myself no matter where I’m at in the water. This smile on this day is a different kind of smile than I’ve ever smiled before and I feel differently than I ever have before. And you know what? It’s not about the weight it’s about so much more. It’s about strength, peace and power. Here’s wishing you strength, peace and power in your bodies no matter where you are on the journey and how you think you look in a bathing suit. ✨🌊🧜🏼‍♀️

An increase in fiber intake is also recommended for regulating bowel movements. Other methods of weight loss include use of drugs and supplements that decrease appetite, block fat absorption, or reduce stomach volume. Bariatric surgery may be indicated in cases of severe obesity. Two common bariatric surgical procedures are gastric bypass and gastric banding.[12] Both can be effective at limiting the intake of food energy by reducing the size of the stomach, but as with any surgical procedure both come with their own risks[13] that should be considered in consultation with a physician. Dietary supplements, though widely used, are not considered a healthy option for weight loss.[14] Many are available, but very few are effective in the long term.[15]
Napping may be an easy way to catch up on some missed shut-eye, but dozing off in the middle of the day does nothing to aid weight loss. In fact, research has found that people burn fewer calories when they sleep during the day and log their waking hours after the sun’s gone down. To come to this finding, researchers at the University of Colorado at Boulder studied 14 healthy adults for six days. For two days, study participants slept at night and stayed awake during the day, then they reversed their routines to mimic the schedules of night owls. When participants slept during the day, researchers found that they burned 52 to 59 fewer calories than they did while catching their Zzzs in the evening—likely because the schedule messed with their circadian rhythm, the body’s internal clock that plays a major role in metabolism function. If your circadian rhythm is out of whack, a separate study by University of Colorado Boulder researchers suggested spending a weekend in the wilderness to get it back on track.
At baseline, 6 months, and 24 months, fasting plasma glucose, insulin, total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and triglycerides were measured on the Synchron CX7 (Beckman Coulter), and hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c) was measured on a Synchron CX5 (Beckman Coulter); plasma leptin and soluble leptin receptor were measured by an ultrasensitive immunoassay (R&D Systems); and serum free triiodothyronine (T3), free thyroxine (T4), total T3, total T4, and thyroid stimulating hormone were measured using a competitive electrochemiluminescence immunoassay on the Roche E modular system (Roche Diagnostics), as previously described elsewhere [37]. The homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) value was calculated using the updated HOMA model (HOMA2) described by Levy et al. [42]. Adipose tissue was obtained from 103 participants at baseline and at 6 months. Gene expression was measured by direct hybridization using the Illumina HumanHT-12 v3 Expression BeadChip (Illumina) (details in S1 Text).
