During the weight-loss period, after multivariate adjustment including baseline levels of each metabolic parameter, plasma concentrations of PFOS, PFNA, and PFDA were inversely associated with changes in visceral fat mass (rs ranged from −0.19 to −0.27, all P < 0.05), and baseline PFOA was inversely associated with changes in HDL cholesterol (rs = −0.12, P < 0.01) (S5 Table). During the weight regain period, baseline PFOS, PFNA, and PFDA levels were positively associated with changes in some of the parameters, including waist circumference, insulin, and leptin (rs ranged from 0.10 to 0.15, all P < 0.05), and baseline PFOA and PFHxS were associated with a greater increase in visceral fat mass (rs = 0.30 and 0.27, respectively; both P < 0.05) (S5 Table). The results were largely similar when analyses were stratified by sex. In sensitivity analyses, the results did not materially change when further adjusting for study location (Boston or Baton Rouge) or participant compliance (number of sessions participants attended).
