If you're feeling stuck in a weight-loss rut there are plenty of expert tips and industry secrets to help you on your way. Whether you want to make your workouts work harder for you or find smarter ways of eating healthily, this list of 30 ways to slim down faster should help you toward your goal.

We’ve already extolled the benefits of green and black teas, but they aren’t the only brews that can help you get slim; research indicates goji tea is another winner. Lycium barbarum, the plant from which goji berries are harvested, boasts a slimming effect. In a study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, participants were either given a single dose of L. barbarum or a placebo after a meal. The researchers found that one hour after the dose, the goji group was burning calories at a rate 10 percent higher than the placebo group, and the effects lasted up to four hours. What’s more? Most goji teas are mixed with green tea, making the beverage a weight loss double whammy.

For those new to the Mayr cure, this efficacious diet plan developed by Dr Franz Xaver Mayr is based on the principle that giving an overworked digestive system a break allows other parts of the body to repair themselves. Such are its remarkable effects that the method has reached legendary status when it comes to tackling fatigue, arthritis, migraine and sleep problems. The food is healthy, modern Mayr at its best - no sugar, no dairy, no alcohol. Many people come here to lose weight, others to press pause, still more for an annual health MOT. The vast medical department offers everything from traditional massages and intravenous drips to bone-density measurements and hi-tech oxygen therapy used by astronauts. The diagnostics are mind-bogglingly impressive - blood tests, mineral tests, cardiovascular tests, intolerance tests - all of which dictate your treatments, as well as lay bare the real state of your health.

Our study provides the first piece of evidence from a controlled weight-loss trial that higher baseline plasma PFAS concentrations in adults are associated with a greater weight regain, especially in women, possibly due to suppressed RMR levels. These findings imply that overweight and obese individuals with relatively low PFAS exposures might potentially benefit more from weight-loss interventions. Although the production of PFOS and PFOA in the US has largely been phased out [31,63], the production of other PFASs, such as PFNA, may continue or even increase, especially in developing countries [64]. Given the persistence of these PFASs in the environment and the human body, their potential adverse effects remain a public health concern.
3. Be realistic about which habits need to go. "When I was heavy, I'd eat French fries every single day, plus carbs at almost every meal—like a sandwich for lunch or bread with pasta for dinner. A diet so heavy in fried food and carbs just isn't conducive to weight loss. To lose the weight, I went from three large meals a day to six small meals, mostly made of fresh vegetable salads with lean meats and nuts. And no more bread!"

Are your portion control issues making it hard for you to shrink your man boobs? Stop yourself from going back for seconds by grabbing a box of mints. People often yearn for that second cookie or helping of mac and cheese because the taste of the first still lingers. To cleanse your palate, keep mints or breath strips on hand and pop them when it’s time to quit noshing. Not only will this rid the alluring taste from your tongue, it will also keep your mouth busy and act as a distraction. Drinking water or tea are also helpful tactics.
As far as grains go, quinoa is a great one to have around if you’re looking to lose weight. It’s packed with protein and fiber, and contains approximately 220 calories per cup, cooked. What’s more? Quinoa is one of the few plant foods that offer a complete set of amino acids, meaning it can be converted directly into muscle by the body. It’s also incredibly versatile, and can be eaten as part of a salad, tossed in a smoothie, or on its own as a side dish.

Featured on the NBC hit reality TV show, “The Biggest Loser,” this resort’s reputation certainly precedes itself. The resort has locations in Malibu, Calif.; Niagara, N.Y. and just recently Chicago, but the original Ivins, Utah location beat out the others (and took first place) in SpaFinder’s readers’ choice top 100 spas in 2012. The resort’s program is similar to what viewers see on TV: intense and group-oriented. During the seven-day program (from $2,695 for a private room), guests start off each day with a scenic guided hike. From there, participants partake in core strength training, cardio, water aerobics, cooking demonstrations and more. After the day is done, guests have the opportunity to relax in the heated swimming pool or at the full-service spa.

There are two versions of this diet: one is where you supplement healthy, daily meals with strawberries, for their natural health benefits (they contain high levels of vitamin C, folic acid and potassium), but the more extreme version of the diet is the strawberry fast, in which the person lives on nothing but strawberries to lose weight quickly. While strawberries are very healthy, eating them alone means that you miss out on other vital ingredients you get from a balanced diet. Strawberries are also very high in sugar, just 100g of strawberries contains about 7g of sugar – that’s almost two teaspoons. And after Kim Kardashian was reported to be trying the strawberries-only diet, we’re sure there’ll be a few people ready to follow in her slimming footsteps…
We’ve already established how chewing thoroughly can ensure you eat a meal at a leisurely pace, but there are other tricks you can use to slow down, too, like giving your fork a break between bites. A study in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association found that slow eaters took in 66 fewer calories per meal, but compared to their fast-eating peers, they felt like they had eaten more. While 66 calories might not sound like much, cutting that amount out of every meal adds up to a weight loss of more than 20 pounds a year!

Fitness Director Jeff Ford evaluates guests on the way in, testing your strength, flexibility, and balance. You also get a scan that reveals not just your weight, but how much muscle and fat you have. At the end, maybe you "only" lost two pounds, but you gained one pound of muscle and lost three pounds of fat, which means your body is closer to becoming a fat-burning machine.

Few things are more discouraging to someone on a weight-loss plan than the oft-cited statistic that 95% of people who lose weight will regain it within a few years. The difficulty in sticking with a long-term weight-maintenance plan is one of the main reasons that weight-loss programs fail. To uncover clues to successful weight loss, researchers have been collecting information on people who have lost weight and successfully kept it off for many years. This project, known as the National Weight Control Registry (NWCR), records what these people did to achieve their goals.
Some scientists subscribe to the idea that your body has a set weight point and all of the above – your metabolism, hormones, brain – will adjust to maintain that weight. The theory goes that people can have naturally higher or lower set weights than others and genetics, aging, history of weight loss and other hormonal shifts can all impact your set weight. Moreover, set points can rise but very rarely do they lower. Similarly, they are much easier to maintain – because your body wants to – than reduce, which is why maintaining a healthy weight is easier than losing weight.
“This is for me but this is also for my family. Because what’s the point of…not truly enjoying yourself. Not being present with your kids and your husband but being somewhere in the past or being scared of something in the future and not having the knowledge of being in my body and feeling comfortable in it and feeling present” – Marisol Peeples, Texas
Voted SpaFinder’s readers’ choice top ten for best weight loss and/or fitness program for six consecutive years and awarded the 2013 Condé Nast Traveler: Gold List Platinum Circle Award, it’s no surprise that this luxurious resort made the list. Cal-a-Vie, located in the magnificent hills of Vista, provides 32 Mediterranean-style villas and a five-to-one staff-to-guest ratio, allowing guests an intimate experience. Guests have access to over 130 fitness classes, spa treatments, lectures, cooking demonstrations, and fresh meals during their stay. The resort offers customized three-night (starting at $3,995), four-night (starting at $5,295) and seven-night (starting at $8,295) packages.
Have you ever noticed children take forever to eat? That’s a good thing. A 2015 study found when people took 30 seconds in between bites, they stopped eating when they were no longer hungry, so they saved calories and pounds. This example of more chewing and less weight gain has been proven in several studies. We tend to consume more food than necessary as we age because emotion and stress can take over. To combat this, I suggest going back to childhood habits by using smaller plates and chewing longer. A smaller plate will make a smaller portion of food seem bigger. Focusing on slowing down your eating will help fill you up without filling you out.
For the first month, I did the Hilton Head Health's LoseWell program, which is a very structured program—there's less choice and more guidance, my dieting training wheels, so to speak. I met with a group of other people looking to lose weight, and we ate pre-planned meals and did our prescribed workouts together. In between, I went to classes about the basics of nutrition and fitness, trying to learn everything I could about this new lifestyle.
1) Out of curiosity, do you aim to keep your athletes just out of ketosis range, or is temporary ketosis a state you shoot for in order to expedite weight loss in that five-day period prior to weigh-in? (or do you consider it too lengthy/finicky a transition to even bother?) What are your thoughts on ketosis for a more sustained weight loss effort, say over months and not days?
I started my journey this summer with 19% body fat, at the upper range of what would be considered acceptable for percentage body fat. The measurement is based on the principle of impedance, the transmission of electrical current through various body tissues, with fat creating the most resistance and muscle the least, based on its higher water content.

If you follow food trends, you might think you have to fall in love with cauliflower and kale to reap all the rewards that veggies offer, but that isn’t the case. Be it broccoli, sweet potatoes, carrots, red peppers, cabbage, spinach, or any other vegetable, the idea is to eat a variety of them and find plenty of ways to enjoy their goodness. So if you just can’t stomach steamed Brussels sprouts, try them roasted, or give sautéed Brussels sprouts a try. If raw zucchini isn’t your thing, see if you like it spiralized into noodles or grilled on a grill pan.

Of course, many guests—whom one program director described as type A’s, double A’s and triple A’s, even if they aren’t all super-fit—come for the results, not just the high. And we were pleased. One guest dropped nearly nine pounds his first week and ten his second. After one week, I’d taken off just about all the fat I'd put on after I was sidelined by an injury several months ago. My skin glowed, the dark circles under my eyes looked lighter, and I genuinely felt rested.

I started my Fit Body Weight Loss Program a little over two weeks ago and have already lost 18 pounds. Some positive changes I have enjoyed are my stress level has greatly dropped, my energy level has skyrocketed and I am able to wear clothes that I have not been able to wear in years! I enjoy our weekly Coaching Sessions because they keep me motivated and the healthy eating program keeps me always feeling satisfied and healthy. I’m loving my weight loss results and can’t wait to reach my final goal in a few months!
Part 1 — this post — details exactly how top fighters like Georges St. Pierre rapidly lose 20-30 pounds for “weigh-ins.” To refine the method, Nate performed this on himself, losing 20 pounds in 5 days. The unique part: Dr. Berardi and team measured key variables throughout the entire process, including the last “rehydration” phase. As Berardi put it:
Like protein, fiber slows the rate at which your body plows through carb calories so you feel full for longer and maintain steadier blood sugar levels, one reason why research consistently links fiber intake to weight loss. That means fibrous whole grain bread tends to be a better choice than white bread and also explains why fruits, which contain fiber and valuable vitamins in addition to sugar, beat straight-up candy every time.
There are many weight loss retreats across the world but what makes our weight loss retreat program work is the extra support, services and mature staff who know how to take care of you to meet your goals. There’s obviously strength and conditioning (which can be a game changer), how injured the athlete is at any moment (no MMA fighter enters a fight completely injury-free, training is brutal), in which time zone the fight is being held (if one athlete lives in that time zone it’s an advantage), whether the fight is at altitude or not (if one athlete lives/trains at altitude, that’s an advantage), and so on.
Okay, we know this probably isn’t the most appealing idea. Especially if you are looking for the fastest way to lose weight, you want to get right to it and skip talking to anyone. But trust us — talking to someone before starting your weight loss regimen can be beneficial. As Prevention.com reveals, nutritionist have more knowledge on this subject than any diet book or infomercial.

In a 2015 Orlando Health survey of more than a thousand respondents, the majority cited their inability to stay consistent with a diet or exercise plan as their primary barrier to weight loss success. Sounds common, but here’s the kicker: Only one in 10 of the survey respondents noted their psychological well-being as part of the equation—and it’s likely why nearly two out of three people who lost five percent of their total weight ended up gaining it all back. Yikes! To unlock the door to weight loss success and stop emotional eating, try keeping a journal that tracks your food choices and current mood. Then, look for unhealthy patterns, which can help you recognize specific emotional connections you have with food. Once you’re more aware of these connections, it will be easier to adopt healthier eating patterns. Do you always reach for something sugary when you’re stressed or devour fries when you’re sad? Instead, try more productive ways to cope, like going for a brisk walk or texting a friend.
Head to San Diego, CA for a comprehensive health assessment at Lifewellness Institute (seriously, it takes 5.5 hours and basically eliminates the need for your annual checkups), then hop in the complimentary transportation that jets you off to Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico. Once there, you'll choose a holistic program to follow throughout your stay based on those test results, so you can really zero in on what your body needs to reboot (stress management levels, energy, or an inflammation rebalance, for example). With tons of farm-to-table cuisine—you'll head out to the fields before taking part in cooking classes–plenty of workout options, and rejuvenating spa treatments, there's no way you won't leave feeling refreshed.
Plain and simple: We just don't feel full by liquid calories in quite the same way as we do real food. Drinking a juice or caramel coffee drink, for instance, won't make you feel full the way eating a bowl of veggie- and protein-packed stir-fry will. So monitor your intake of juice, soda, sweetened coffee and tea, and alcoholic beverages. If you consume each of those beverages during the day, you'll have taken in at least 800 extra calories by nighttime — and you'll still be hungry. (Incidentally, alcohol may suppress the metabolism of fat, making it tougher for you to burn those calories.) Some other ways to skip sugar? Check 'em out here.

Afternoons often include a TRX strength class or cardio boxing, both of which I have fallen in love with, or meeting up with my trainer for a personal training session. One of my primary goals here is to be strong so we're really working on strength training. I wrap up with hip-hop dance or yoga. Even though they’re totally different classes, each bring me joy. If that sounds like a lot of exercise, it is, but even though it's more movement than I've ever done in my life, it's always fun and there's no pressure to do it. I don't have to do this many classes and some days I choose to rest.
And we all left with resolve to continue. That’s because as exciting as it is to notice more room in your waistband, or to summit one peak, Mountain Trek is really in the life change business. Director Kirkland Shave—a virtual encyclopedia of health and a poster boy for the healthy lifestyle—gives engaging and inspiring lectures, with lots of take-home tips, but we wouldn’t buy an ounce of it if we didn’t feel great there and or believe it was possible to re-create any of it at home.

If you're a European or English yogi, then you can easily stay close to home for your get-into-shape holiday. This makes it much easier to incorporate everything you learn into your new, healthy life. Plus, you are close enough to the retreat that you might meet a few friendly neighbors. And isn't that so cool that you can build a health-focused community so easily?
A different way of viewing weight loss identifies the problem as not one of consuming too many calories, but rather the way the body accumulates fat after consuming carbohydrates—in particular the role of the hormone insulin. When you eat a meal, carbohydrates from the food enter your bloodstream as glucose. In order to keep your blood sugar levels in check, your body always burns off this glucose before it burns off fat from a meal.

Whole foods include fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, seeds, whole grains, eggs, seafood, chicken and so on. Food philosophies may differ around which of these foods to emphasize, but that’s okay, since the evidence shows that there isn’t a single best way to lose weight. The goal is to select an approach that feels sustainable to you. If you can easily live without pasta, perhaps a low-carb method centered around veggies and quality proteins, like seafood, chicken, and lean beef would be a good fit. Vegans and vegetarians can lose weight by choosing fruits, vegetables, whole grains and plant proteins. Nut lovers may do well shedding pounds with a Mediterranean-style menu. Whatever diet appeals to your appetite and way of life, focusing on whole foods is something that all plans promote.
Aim to get at least seven hours of sleep each night. Try going to bed and waking up at the same time each day. Get these seven tips for the best sleep ever! Why? Ever notice how you start to crave donuts and drive-thru breakfasts when you’re exhausted? When you don’t get enough sleep, your hormones are thrown out of balance. Running on no sleep can actually drive up the hormones that make you want to eat, while pushing down the hormones that signal for fullness—and that’s a recipe for weight gain. When you’re well-rested, it’s much easier to make healthy decisions and stay on track.

Low-calorie diets are also referred to as balanced percentage diets. Due to their minimal detrimental effects, these types of diets are most commonly recommended by nutritionists. In addition to restricting calorie intake, a balanced diet also regulates macronutrient consumption. From the total number of allotted daily calories, it is recommended that 55% should come from carbohydrates, 15% from protein, and 30% from fats with no more than 10% of total fat coming from saturated forms.[citation needed] For instance, a recommended 1,200 calorie diet would supply about 660 calories from carbohydrates, 180 from protein, and 360 from fat. Some studies suggest that increased consumption of protein can help ease hunger pangs associated with reduced caloric intake by increasing the feeling of satiety.[4] Calorie restriction in this way has many long-term benefits. After reaching the desired body weight, the calories consumed per day may be increased gradually, without exceeding 2,000 net (i.e. derived by subtracting calories burned by physical activity from calories consumed). Combined with increased physical activity, low-calorie diets are thought to be most effective long-term, unlike crash diets, which can achieve short-term results, at best. Physical activity could greatly enhance the efficiency of a diet. The healthiest weight loss regimen, therefore, is one that consists of a balanced diet and moderate physical activity.[citation needed]
Meal prepping takes a few hours a week, but it's worth it: By getting your meals ready ahead of time, you won't be so tempted to order your go-to Chinese takeout when you're tired and hungry after work. "When you plan an entire week of dinner in advance, you're way less likely to go off course and indulge in foods that aren't good for you," says Pamela Salzman, a certified holistic health expert and cooking instructor. And since you planned things out, you'll actually get the protein, fruit, and veggies your body needs — and you'll lose weight in the process.

The K-E diet stands for Ketogenic Enteral Nutrition diet and is the work of Dr. Oliver di Pietro, from Florida. He promises to help anyone shed 20 lbs. in as little as 10 days. As part of the diet, dieters have to get a small nasogastric tube inserted into their nose going all the way to the stomach, through which a liquid solution drips constantly. The solution supposedly contains a mix of protein, fat and water and makes up 800 calories. A few hours of this and a process called ketosis is said to be triggered, which burns body fat due to the lack of carbohydrates. The fat is burned but the muscle and water in the body remain untouched. Dieters who want to achieve the best results aren't supposed to eat anything for a period of 10 days and also have to carry around the bag of nutritious fluid everywhere they go.

Meeting your protein requirements in your diet is especially important when you increase your activity level. Not only does this macro help your body build and maintain muscle mass, it may help to facilitate weight loss, and can increase your feelings of fullness.5 So while you may associate a protein shake primarily with getting bigger, it can be just as important an ally when weight loss is the goal!
Yes, this is exactly what you think it is. A nice fatty blob of butter in your coffee alongside a glug of oil. Really! The latest diet fad involves taking a tablespoon of butter and stirring in two dollops along with a dash of oil (medium-chain triglyceride, to be precise) which makes a cup of Bulletproof Coffee. Despite the fact that this unappealing brew contains a massive 500 calories, its creator Dave Asprey, once 21 stone and now ‘slimline’ swears by the formula. But we’re not convinced, and neither is Dr Sally Norton, an NHS surgeon and leading UK weight-loss consultant who spoke to the Telegraph. ‘There is no science that would back this up as a weight-loss tool’.
When it’s doing its job properly, inflammation in the body helps fight off infection. But in people who are overweight or obese, inflammation can get out of control, which increases insulin resistance as well as your risk for heart disease, cancer, arthritis, and even Alzheimer’s disease. “Excess body fat, especially when it’s located around the abdomen, is strongly linked to inflammation,” Dr. Webster says. Adipose fat tissue releases inflammation-causing molecules, but the markers of inflammation go down with even a 5 or 10 percent reduction in body weight, she says. Yes, going on a juice cleanse will help you detox and can help you lose a couple pounds quickly. The problem with this method, though, is that it isn’t a long-term solution. You are more likely to gain the weight back afterwards because you deprived yourself of essential nutrition while juicing. Plus, the lack of protein will leave you famished and angry. (And nobody wants to be around a hangry person.)
As funny as it sounds, sleep deprivation may make you fat — and not just because you're susceptible to cases of the late-night munchies (although there's that too). There's tons of research that demonstrates getting less than the desired amount — about 7 hours — of sleep per night can slow down your metabolism. Plus, when you're awake for longer, you're naturally more likely to nosh. So don't skimp on your ZZZs, and you'll be rewarded with an extra edge when it comes to shedding pounds quickly.
“There are so many amazing properties in tea and so many healthy foods that require hot water,” Emmy-award winning and author of The 7-Day Flat-Belly Tea Cleanse, Kelly Choi says. “But I’ll swap in hot green tea instead of water for things like oatmeal and quinoa. I’ve seen so many people benefit from my tea cleanse that it inspired me to keep the tea flowing whenever I can!”
Have trouble eating reasonably sized portions? Try dimming the lights and cueing up some soft music. According to a study published in Psychological Reports, soft lighting and music lead noshers to eat less and enjoy their food more. That’s what we call a win-win. It is possible to do more in less time — at least when it comes to your workouts. By incorporating interval training — that means bursts of high-intensity moves — you’ll give your metabolism a huge boost, says Glenn Gaesser, Ph.D., director of the Kinesiology Program at the University of Virginia and author of The Spark. If you usually jog at a consistent pace, try adding a 30-second to one-minute sprint every five minutes, or, if you’re on a treadmill, change up the incline for one-minute intervals.
Are you considering a visit to a weight loss resort? Many smart dieters begin their journey away from home to get a clean break from the habits and lifestyle practices that led to weight gain in the first place. It's a smart approach if you can afford the luxury, but a visit to a health spa is not cheap, so it's smart to do your homework before you decide where to go.
Low-T often goes undiagnosed and untreated because the symptoms of Low-T are similar to those caused by other medical conditions. Among men with Low-T, only half to two-thirds report symptoms. A simple blood test can determine if symptoms such as decreased energy levels, sleep problems, increased body fat, and depression are a result of low testosterone.
